Overview

iTrustCapital is a software platform for self-directed retirement accounts that can hold cryptocurrency and physical precious-metals exposure.

Current products include:

  • Traditional IRAs;
  • Roth IRAs;
  • SEP IRAs;
  • inherited IRA administration;
  • more than 90 digital assets;
  • physical gold and silver exposure;
  • crypto IRA transfers in kind;
  • cash contributions;
  • qualified-plan rollovers;
  • conditional transactions;
  • recurring buys;
  • in-kind distributions.

The legal structure matters.

iTrustCapital states that it is:

  • Exchange: No
  • Custodian: No
  • Trust company: No
  • Broker dealer: No
  • Investment adviser: No

Current qualified custodian:

  • Fortis Bank: Yes

May fit better for

  • investors seeking crypto inside a true self-directed IRA;
  • investors who want more than bitcoin;
  • users who want crypto plus gold or silver;
  • investors who prefer 24/7 digital-asset trading;
  • investors transferring an existing crypto IRA in kind;
  • investors comfortable with third-party institutional custody.

May fit less well for

  • investors who want personal control of IRA private keys;
  • investors seeking a conventional stock-and-bond brokerage;
  • investors who want zero transaction fees;
  • users seeking direct external-wallet withdrawals from the IRA while it remains tax-advantaged;
  • investors who want an investment adviser to select assets;
  • users who assume bank custody makes crypto FDIC insured.

Current qualified custodian

Current 2026 iTrustCapital support states:

  • Qualified custodian: Fortis Bank

Fortis holds IRA assets for the benefit of each customer.

iTrustCapital operates the software and transaction interface.

---

Digital-asset storage

Current custody materials state Fortis/iTrust Custodial Services works with institutional storage providers including:

  • Coinbase Custody;
  • Fidelity Digital Assets;
  • Fireblocks.

Current security references include:

  • MPC: Yes
  • Offline cold storage: Yes
  • SOC2 Type II provider: Yes
  • Commercial crime insurance: Yes

---

Current account-opening minimum

Current support:

  • Initial IRA minimum: $1,000
  • Additional inflow minimum: $500

There is no stated maximum for IRA transfers or qualified-plan rollovers.

Annual cash contributions remain subject to federal IRA limits.

---

Digital-asset transaction fee

Current August 2026 trading instructions state:

  • Digital asset purchase fee: 1%
  • Digital asset sale fee: 1%

A crypto-to-crypto switch requires two transactions because iTrustCapital does not use token pairs.

Example:

To move $10,000 from ETH to BTC:

  1. sell ETH to USD — 1%;
  2. buy BTC with USD — 1%.

Ignoring price movement and spread effects, the two transaction fees total approximately:

$100 + $99 = $199

because the second transaction is made with the post-fee proceeds.

---

No monthly or annual platform maintenance fee

Current January 2026 support:

  • Monthly platform maintenance fee: $0
  • Annual platform maintenance fee: $0

That does not mean every service is free.

Trading, conversion, wire, and other service fees can still apply.

---

Roth conversion fee

Current May 2026 conversion FAQ:

  • Roth conversion service fee: $75

The fee can apply to full or partial conversions.

Tax consequences are separate from the service fee.

---

Precious metals

Current platform supports physical gold and silver exposure.

Current structure:

  • Gold and silver source: Kitco
  • Ledger technology: Tradewind VaultChain
  • Storage: Royal Canadian Mint
  • Storage fee on platform: $0

The customer owns allocated ounces as part of larger bullion bars.

---

Precious-metals fee

Current iTrustCapital support directs customers to the live pricing page for precious-metals trading fees.

---

More than 90 digital assets

Current August 11, 2026 support states:

  • Digital assets: 90+

Asset availability changes.

Keep the asset count as an update trigger rather than copying the full list into permanent structured fields.

---

24/7 trading

Current platform:

  • Crypto trading 24 7: Yes
  • Conditional transactions: Yes
  • Recurring buys: Yes

Conditional transactions are not limit orders.

They trigger market orders when the selected condition is reached.

---

IRA assets cannot sit in a personal wallet

Current June 2026 support states:

  • Personal wallet while asset remains in IRA: No

Assets are held through the qualified-custodian structure.

---

That is a distribution from the IRA.

---

Current July 2026 support:

  • In kind crypto IRA transfer in: Yes

Only supported assets can transfer in kind.

Unsupported assets may need to remain at the old provider or be converted before transfer.

---

Account types

Current support establishes:

  • Traditional IRA: Yes
  • Roth IRA: Yes
  • SEP IRA: Yes
  • Inherited IRA support: Yes

Current rollover materials also reference SIMPLE IRA funds.

Direct employer-participating SIMPLE contributions are not currently integrated.

---

Protection

Current iTrustCapital disclosures state cryptocurrency is not:

  • legal tender backed by the U.S. government;
  • FDIC insured as cryptocurrency;
  • protected from market loss.

Eligible USD held at banking partners can have separate deposit treatment.

Assessment

iTrustCapital combines a relatively low $1,000 entry point with a broad crypto menu and precious-metals access.

The fee model is easy to understand for direct crypto trades:

1% to buy and 1% to sell.

The custody distinction is more important:

Fortis Bank is the qualified custodian; iTrustCapital is the software and transaction platform.

Customers do not personally control IRA wallet keys while the assets remain inside the retirement account.

Offering structure and liquidity

StructureSelf-directed IRA transaction platform using Fortis Bank as the qualified custodian. The retirement account owns supported cryptocurrency and precious-metals assets; iTrustCapital provides software and transaction access and is not itself a cryptocurrency exchange, broker-dealer or investment adviser.
