OANDA: Platform Profile

Platform profileUpdated 2026-09-04

We may earn a commission if you open an account through links on this page. Our editorial analysis is independent and is never influenced by commercial partnerships. Full disclosure.

OANDA is a U.S. retail foreign-exchange dealer with a long operating history, flexible trade sizing, multiple platform options, an API, and a separate spot-crypto relationship with Paxos.

The ownership structure changed in December 2025 when FTMO completed its acquisition of OANDA Global Corporation from CVC.

For U.S. customers, the key product distinction is between OANDA's leveraged retail forex business and spot cryptocurrency executed and custodied by Paxos. OANDA is not the crypto counterparty or custodian.

May fit better for

  • U.S. forex traders
  • traders who value very small/variable position sizing
  • API developers
  • TradingView users
  • high-volume forex traders considering commission pricing
  • users who want selected spot crypto in the same broader interface

May fit less well for

  • investors seeking stocks or mutual funds
  • traders wanting a broad futures platform from the U.S. OANDA account
  • investors expecting one legal protection structure across forex and crypto
  • users who need SIPC protection for leveraged FX
  • passive investors

Ownership

FTMO completed its acquisition of OANDA Global Corporation on December 1, 2025. The former owner was CVC Asia Fund IV.

U.S. legal entity

Retail forex is provided by OANDA Corporation, NFA ID 0325821, a CFTC-registered Retail Foreign Exchange Dealer and NFA Forex Dealer Member.

OANDA Corporation is a U.S. retail foreign-exchange dealer and is not a FINRA stock broker.

Eligibility

Current U.S. account-opening guidance requires an individual to be at least 18 years old, a U.S. legal resident, and to complete identity and address verification. Corporate and other account structures have separate rules.

Forex lineup

The current U.S. account comparison lists 68 currency pairs.

OANDA also emphasizes variable trade sizing down to very small unit amounts. This can be useful for precise position sizing, risk control and small experimental trades. It does not make leverage safe.

Two forex pricing approaches

OANDA supports spread-only pricing and core spreads plus commission.

Spread-only pricing

Under spread-only pricing, OANDA's compensation is incorporated in the spread. Current published examples include reference spreads of 1.4 pips on EUR/USD, USD/JPY and AUD/USD.

These are current displayed reference spreads, not guaranteed future spreads. Spreads fluctuate.

Core spreads + commission

The current eligibility requirement is a $10,000 minimum initial deposit or balance. The current commission is $0.70 per 10,000 units per leg, and core spreads can be as low as 0.0 pips on selected major pairs.

Core commission math

For 10,000 units, the opening commission is $0.70, the closing commission is $0.70 and the round trip is $1.40.

For 50,000 units, opening is 5 × $0.70 = $3.50, closing is $3.50 and the round trip is $7.00.

For 100,000 units, opening is $7.00, closing is $7.00 and the round trip is $14.00.

OANDA expresses the schedule per 10,000 units and commission is prorated.

Core total cost still includes spread

If a 10,000-unit EUR/USD trade executes with a 0.2-pip spread and one pip is approximately $1 for that position size, the spread cost is 0.2 × $1 = $0.20 and the round-trip commission is $1.40, for an illustrative combined transaction cost of $1.60 before financing or other effects.

The spread may be higher or lower when the trade is actually entered.

Elite Trader program

OANDA provides a high-volume Elite Trader program. Current monthly volume tiers begin at $10 million, and current rebates range from $5 to $17 per million. The program also includes service and platform benefits under current terms.

These rebates are volume incentives, not investment returns.

Platforms

Current U.S. platform choices include OANDA Web, OANDA Mobile, TradingView and MetaTrader 4.

OANDA's U.S. platform page does not currently headline MT5 in the same way as its non-U.S. operations, and global platform availability does not apply to the U.S. account.

TradingView

OANDA accounts can connect to TradingView. The current integration allows live order placement using OANDA pricing and execution. TradingView is not the forex counterparty; OANDA remains the regulated forex dealer.

API

OANDA's v20 REST API is a major platform feature. Current capabilities include market data, historical prices, order management, account information and automated trading.

Automation creates additional operational risks, including connectivity failure, coding errors, duplicate orders, latency and unexpected strategy behavior.

Spot crypto is through Paxos

OANDA's U.S. crypto experience is structurally separate from forex. Digital-asset services are provided through Paxos Trust Company and executed on the Paxos itBit exchange. OANDA is not the crypto counterparty and not the crypto custodian.

All digital-asset transactions occur at Paxos, and Paxos holds the crypto account.

Current crypto lineup

Current U.S. OANDA pages list nine cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, PAX Gold, Chainlink, Uniswap, Aave and Solana.

Crypto trading access

Current crypto access includes OANDA mobile and TradingView integration for applicable assets. Crypto is fully funded spot trading rather than leveraged OANDA forex, and OANDA states that crypto positions use 0% leverage under this structure.

Corporate, IRA, ECP and legal-entity accounts are not currently eligible for the Paxos crypto account under current materials.

Crypto fees

Current OANDA materials state crypto commissions can be as low as approximately 0.25%. The actual Paxos pricing tier controls, and 0.25% is not a guaranteed universal fee for every crypto trade or customer.

Crypto protection

Paxos is not an NFA member and the crypto account is not under OANDA's NFA forex oversight. Current OANDA disclosure states digital assets held with Paxos are not protected by SIPC and are not covered by FDIC investment protection.

OANDA Corporation's forex regulatory status does not apply to Paxos crypto.

Forex IRA access

OANDA educational material states that leveraged forex can be held through certain approved third-party IRA custodial structures. OANDA is not the IRA custodian and is not a self-directed IRA provider simply because a third-party custodian can facilitate a forex IRA.

Customer protection

Retail forex is governed by CFTC/NFA rules. That is different from securities SIPC protection, which does not apply to OANDA's retail forex.

Forex leverage can produce losses substantially greater than the initial margin committed.

Assessment

OANDA is particularly compelling for traders who value precise position sizing, API access, TradingView integration, and a choice between spread-only and commission-based pricing.

Its crypto access is useful but should not be overstated. OANDA provides the interface and relationship; Paxos is the actual crypto exchange and custodian.

The 2025 FTMO acquisition changes the ownership context, not the fundamental risk of leveraged forex.
