tastyfx: Platform Profile
We may earn a commission if you open an account through links on this page. Our editorial analysis is independent and is never influenced by commercial partnerships. Full disclosure.
tastyfx is the U.S. retail forex business formerly branded IG US.
The brand changed to tastyfx in 2024, but the company remains a specialized leveraged forex dealer rather than the options-focused tastytrade securities broker. That distinction matters throughout.
Current tastyfx pricing includes three principal retail structures: Standard, Zero+ and Prime. The broker also offers MetaTrader, TradingView, IRA forex through Equity Trust, and a demo account.
May fit better for
- U.S. spot-forex traders
- users who want multiple pricing models
- active traders considering zero-spread commission pricing
- high-balance traders considering Prime
- traders using TradingView or MetaTrader
- investors specifically seeking forex inside a self-directed IRA
May fit less well for
- investors seeking stocks or ETFs at tastyfx
- investors who confuse tastyfx with tastytrade
- small passive investors
- traders uncomfortable with leverage
- users expecting SIPC securities protection
Legal identity
The current entity is tastyfx, LLC, NFA ID 0509630, registered with the CFTC as a Retail Foreign Exchange Dealer and Introducing Broker and an NFA Forex Dealer Member.
tastyfx is not an SEC-registered broker-dealer, a FINRA member, or a SIPC securities broker. tastytrade's broker-dealer protections do not extend to tastyfx.
Common ownership is not product equivalence
tastyfx, tastytrade and tastylive are affiliates through common ownership under IG US Holdings, Inc. They are separate legal entities.
tastyfx handles U.S. leveraged retail forex. tastytrade handles securities, futures and crypto products under its own structure. tastyfx customers do not automatically receive tastytrade brokerage products.
Forex lineup
Current tastyfx pricing pages state 85+ currency pairs. Current account pages sometimes use "80+" in broader marketing, so the marketed count varies by page and is tracked as an update trigger.
Standard pricing
The current Standard account has a $0 account minimum, $0 commission, a minimum spread reference of 0.8 pips and 85+ currency pairs.
The headline 0.8-pip spread is a minimum on selected majors, not a guarantee. The current EUR/USD minimum is 0.8 pips.
Standard spread math
For a standard 100,000-unit EUR/USD position, one pip is roughly $10. At a 0.8-pip spread, 0.8 × $10 = $8, so the illustrative transaction begins approximately $8 behind based on the spread at that moment.
Actual spreads can widen. This example excludes overnight financing.
Zero+ pricing
Zero+ is commission-based. Current terms are a $0 account minimum, a minimum spread reference of 0.0 pips and a $5-per-lot commission.
Zero+ is available on a smaller set of heavily traded currency pairs than Standard. The $5-per-lot figure must be read with the current Zero+ terms for whether it applies per transaction side or per complete trade under the specific contract language.
Prime
Prime is intended for higher-balance traders. The current minimum is $50,000, with a minimum spread reference of 0.6 pips, $0 commission and cash interest of up to 8% APY under current terms as of September 4, 2026.
The advertised "up to 8% APY" is conditional, variable, tied to current Prime terms and not an investment return on forex positions.
Prime balance tradeoff
A $50,000 required starting balance is materially different from Standard or Zero+. Prime is not simply the "cheapest" account without considering the opportunity cost of the balance, current interest terms, spread behavior, trader volume and account qualification.
Volume rebates
tastyfx also offers volume-based rebates. Current marketing states rebates can reach up to 15% under current volume-program terms. That is not a guaranteed discount for every customer.
Overnight financing
All current account types can incur overnight funding when positions remain open after the applicable daily cutoff. The cost reflects the currency interest-rate differential, broker administration, trade direction and day.
Depending on the pair and direction, rollover can be a debit or a credit. Forex cost comparisons that ignore rollover are incomplete for multi-day positions.
Platforms
Current tastyfx platform choices include the proprietary tastyfx web and mobile platforms, TradingView, MetaTrader 5, and MetaTrader 4 under applicable account structures.
Platform compatibility differs by account type. The current pricing table states Standard supports tastyfx, TradingView and MT5; Zero+ supports tastyfx and MT5; and Prime supports tastyfx, TradingView and MT5.
Forex IRA
tastyfx supports forex trading through self-directed IRAs held with Equity Trust. Current IRA types include Traditional and Roth IRAs.
The workflow is: the customer establishes or uses an Equity Trust SDIRA; funds are directed to the tastyfx forex relationship; trading occurs through tastyfx; and Equity Trust remains the IRA custodian.
tastyfx is not itself the SDIRA custodian.
Forex IRA does not eliminate leverage risk
Tax-advantaged account treatment does not make leveraged forex safer. The IRA remains exposed to currency losses, leverage, spreads, rollover and execution risk. IRA forex is not a retirement-safety product.
Customer profitability disclosure
Current public FDM disclosures show that most retail customer accounts were unprofitable in recent quarters. For the quarter ending June 30, 2026, there were 8,801 active non-discretionary accounts, of which 34.5% were profitable and 65.5% were unprofitable.
This is valuable risk context. It is not a forecast of any individual customer's result.
Protection
tastyfx is regulated by the CFTC and NFA as an RFED and FDM. It explicitly states that it is not an SEC broker-dealer, FINRA member or SIPC member.
Forex losses can exceed the amount initially deposited.
Assessment
tastyfx is a specialized U.S. forex broker, and that specialization is a strength.
Standard gives simple spread-only pricing. Zero+ is designed for active traders who want tighter spreads and explicit commissions. Prime targets traders willing to maintain at least $50,000 for tighter spread treatment and current cash-interest benefits.
The IRA relationship with Equity Trust is unusual and useful for a narrow group of traders, but it should not be mistaken for conventional retirement investing.
The most important risk fact is not a spread or commission. It is leverage. tastyfx's own regulatory disclosures show that a majority of active retail forex accounts lose money.
