TradingView: Platform Profile

Platform profileUpdated 2026-09-04

We may earn a commission if you open an account through links on this page. Our editorial analysis is independent and is never influenced by commercial partnerships. Full disclosure.

TradingView is a market-analysis, charting, screening and social platform used by more than 100 million traders and investors worldwide.

It covers a much broader market universe than stocks alone:

  • stocks
  • ETFs and funds
  • futures
  • forex
  • cryptocurrencies
  • options
  • bonds
  • indices
  • economic data

TradingView can also route live orders to compatible external brokers. That does not make TradingView itself a broker. The platform does not hold the securities or futures account simply because an order is entered from a TradingView chart.

May fit better for

  • technical traders
  • investors monitoring multiple asset classes
  • Pine Script developers
  • users wanting strong charting and screeners
  • traders who want to connect an outside broker
  • traders who want paper trading before risking capital

May fit less well for

  • investors wanting a brokerage account from the platform itself
  • investors who expect every exchange's live data inside the subscription price
  • investors who need personalized financial advice
  • users who do not need advanced charting
  • professional market-data users sensitive to exchange fees

TradingView is software, not the broker

TradingView Inc. provides the platform. Live brokerage execution occurs through supported broker integrations.

The workflow is:

  1. user opens or already has an account at a supported broker
  2. user connects that broker through TradingView
  3. TradingView sends eligible orders through that integration
  4. the broker executes/custodies the actual account

TradingView is not a broker-dealer, investment adviser, bank or custodian. SIPC, FDIC or futures customer protection should not be assigned to TradingView itself. Protection depends on the connected financial institution and product.

Current pricing

TradingView has a free plan plus four paid consumer tiers. Current annual-billing display as of September 4, 2026:

  • Free: $0
  • Essential: $12.95/month equivalent on annual billing
  • Plus: $29.95/month equivalent on annual billing
  • Premium: $59.95/month equivalent on annual billing
  • Ultimate: $199.95/month equivalent on annual billing

These prices are date-sensitive and should not be read as evergreen claims.

Annual subscription math

Using the current annual-billing equivalents:

  • Essential: $12.95 × 12 = $155.40/year
  • Plus: $29.95 × 12 = $359.40/year
  • Premium: $59.95 × 12 = $719.40/year
  • Ultimate: $199.95 × 12 = $2,399.40/year

These figures exclude taxes, separately purchased exchange data, broker commissions, broker subscriptions and third-party services.

Plan limits matter more than feature labels

Current annual-plan limits include:

Essential — 2 charts per tab, 5 indicators per chart, 10,000 historical bars, 20 price alerts, 20 technical alerts.

Plus — 4 charts per tab, 10 indicators per chart, 10,000 historical bars, 100 price alerts, 100 technical alerts.

Premium — 8 charts per tab, 25 indicators per chart, 20,000 historical bars, 400 price alerts, 400 technical alerts.

Ultimate — 16 charts per tab, 50 indicators per chart, 40,000 historical bars, 1,000 price alerts, 1,000 technical alerts.

The core interface remains recognizable across plans. Higher tiers mostly expand capacity, historical depth, alerts, layouts, advanced intervals and professional-use capability.

Charting

TradingView's central product remains Supercharts. Current tools include:

  • candlestick and standard charts
  • volume profile
  • volume footprint
  • custom timeframes
  • range bars
  • Renko
  • Kagi
  • Line Break
  • Point & Figure
  • chart patterns
  • drawing tools
  • multiple-chart layouts
  • bar replay
  • multi-condition alerts
  • custom formulas

Not every chart type is equally useful for every investor. Most long-term investors will use only a fraction of this functionality.

Pine Script

TradingView developed Pine Script as its proprietary scripting language. Users can create indicators, strategies and reusable libraries.

Pine Script integrates directly with charts, strategy testing, alerts and Community Scripts. It is one of TradingView's strongest differentiators for technically inclined users.

The tradeoff is ecosystem dependence. Pine Script is not a general-purpose brokerage API, and a strategy written in Pine does not automatically become a live autonomous trading system at every connected broker.

Community Scripts and social layer

TradingView combines charting with a public trading community. Users can publish charts, trade ideas, scripts, indicators and strategies.

This can be useful for idea discovery. It also creates a major quality-control problem. A public script or trading idea is not automatically audited, profitable, independent, suitable or free of hindsight bias.

The social layer should be treated as research input, not a substitute for due diligence.

Screeners

TradingView provides screeners for multiple markets. The global Stock Screener can scan 70+ markets across 50+ countries.

Screening criteria can include technical and fundamental characteristics. The platform also supports screening and analysis across asset classes beyond stocks.

Market data is not fully included in paid plans

This is one of the most important pricing caveats. A paid TradingView subscription does not automatically pay every exchange's real-time data fee.

By default, U.S. stock charts can use real-time Cboe data. That can differ from primary-exchange consolidated or official feeds, particularly on lower timeframes, in thinly traded names and during extended hours.

Users who need primary exchange real-time data can have to pay separate exchange fees. Crypto exchange data is commonly real-time without those exchange subscription fees.

Broker integrations

TradingView allows users to connect compatible brokers from the trading panel. The platform can support chart-based order entry, broker account connection, broker-specific order tickets, position monitoring and broker comparison or discovery.

Availability depends on the broker, the country, the asset class and the specific integration. Not every broker or market supported by TradingView charts can be traded from TradingView.

Paper trading

TradingView offers its own simulated paper-trading account. Features include simulated orders, chart trading, virtual positions, simulated leverage, multiple asset classes, futures simulation and performance tracking.

Paper trading is available without depositing real money. It is useful for learning order mechanics, testing interface workflows and practicing strategy rules.

It is not evidence that a strategy will perform the same with real money. Simulation cannot fully reproduce slippage, liquidity constraints, partial fills, emotional pressure or broker-specific execution.

Portfolio tools

TradingView includes portfolio and watchlist-oriented functionality alongside active-trading tools. It is not a full household wealth-management system, and it is not a robo-advisor, financial planner or custody platform.

Protection

TradingView itself does not provide SIPC brokerage protection, FDIC deposit insurance or CFTC segregated futures custody. Those protections, if applicable, belong to the user's connected broker or financial institution. TradingView is the software interface.

Assessment

TradingView's strongest advantage is breadth. A single interface can handle global charts, technical studies, fundamental research, screeners, scripting, alerts, paper trading and external broker execution.

The platform becomes expensive when a user moves into the higher tiers, especially Ultimate, and real-time exchange data can add further cost.

For a technical trader or investor who actively uses Pine Script, advanced alerts and multi-market screeners, the subscription can replace several separate tools. For someone who only checks a few stock charts, most of the paid functionality may go unused.
