Interactive Brokers and Webull both serve active traders, but they were designed for different problems.

IBKR is a global, multi-asset, professional-grade brokerage with deep pricing structure, wide market access and extensive developer tooling. Webull is a modern U.S.-centric trading platform built around accessible pricing, a fast mobile-and-desktop experience and rapid product expansion.

Comparing them fairly means comparing structure, not adjectives.

Pricing models are structurally different

IBKR operates two plans. IBKR Lite provides $0 commissions on qualifying U.S. exchange-listed stock and ETF trades for eligible clients. IBKR Pro uses commission-based equity pricing with fixed and tiered structures and applicable exchange, regulatory and clearing charges.

Webull provides $0 commissions on eligible U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs under a single retail structure, with regulatory and exchange fees still applying.

The important distinction is that "commission-free" describes different things at each firm. At IBKR it describes one plan among two; at Webull it describes the standard retail experience.

Options pricing

IBKR's fixed plan charges $0.65 per contract, and its tiered plan ranges from $0.15 to $0.65 per contract depending on monthly volume, plus applicable exchange and regulatory charges.

Webull charges $0 commission on stock and ETF options, with regulatory and exchange fees still applying. Index options are priced separately.

Index options are a real difference at Webull

Webull's controlling pricing page states $0.50 per contract for index options, while other Webull marketing pages have stated $0.55. That discrepancy is documented in the canonical record as a monitoring trigger rather than resolved silently. A reader trading index options should confirm the current rate on the pricing page before assuming either number.

IBKR does not maintain a separate consumer index-option rate of this kind; index options fall under its fixed or tiered per-contract options pricing.

Futures

IBKR charges $0.25 to $0.85 per contract depending on product and volume tier, plus exchange, regulatory and overnight fees.

Webull charges $0.25 per contract, per side on micro futures, $0.70 on mini futures and $1.25 on standard futures, plus exchange and NFA fees, through Webull Futures LLC.

Global market access

IBKR's canonical record establishes access to roughly 170 markets across about 40 countries with trading in around 29 currencies, covering global stocks, ETFs, options, futures, bonds, funds and metals.

Broad direct global market access on that scale is not established in Webull's canonical record. A reader who needs direct foreign-exchange-listed equity execution should treat this as a structural difference rather than a matter of app design.

Spot forex

IBKR supports spot forex with commissions of roughly 0.08 to 0.20 basis points of trade value plus the bid-ask spread, subject to minimums.

Webull does not establish a conventional retail spot-forex product in its canonical record. Currency futures are a different product.

Margin rates are dated in both records

IBKR's canonical record cites benchmark margin rates of 5.13% for IBKR Pro and 6.13% for IBKR Lite as of the recorded date, tiered by balance.

Webull's canonical record cites a standard margin rate of 8.74% as of March 31, 2026, with Premium tiers of approximately 3.90% to 5.20%.

Margin rates move with benchmark interest rates. Both figures should be verified against each firm's current published schedule before they influence a decision.

Developer access

IBKR's API surface includes Trader Workstation API, Client Portal API, FIX connectivity and Excel integration, supporting automated and institutional workflows.

Webull OpenAPI covers stocks, fractional stocks, options, futures, crypto and event contracts through HTTP, MQTT and gRPC interfaces with Python and Java SDKs.

Both are genuine developer platforms. IBKR's is longer-established and institutionally oriented; Webull's is modern and spans its newer product lines.

Crypto works differently at each firm

IBKR provides crypto trading through Paxos Trust Company and Zero Hash, with commissions of 0.18% of trade value declining to as low as 0.12% at higher monthly volumes, subject to minimums.

Webull provides crypto through Webull Pay LLC with Coinbase and Bakkt Crypto Solutions, LLC as third-party providers, with 70+ headline assets and a stated spread of about 1% applied to many trades. Webull Pay is not a broker-dealer and crypto accounts are not SIPC-protected.

The cost expressions differ: a stated commission percentage at IBKR versus an embedded spread at Webull. Compare them as total cost of execution, not as one number against another.

Event contracts

IBKR supports forecast and event contracts through ForecastEx LLC, with access spanning ForecastEx, Kalshi and CME Group and trading costs as low as $0.01 per contract.

Webull supports event contracts through Webull Futures LLC on Kalshi, at $0.01 per contract in firm fees plus $0.01 per contract in exchange fees, with $0.01 to $0.99 contract pricing, $1 winning settlement and $0 losing settlement, in a separate event account that is not SIPC-protected.

Both are real products. Neither is an ordinary securities account.

Extended and overnight trading

IBKR supports overnight trading in a large universe of U.S. equities and ETFs during extended overnight sessions.

Webull supports 24/5 trading on a selected list of equities and ETFs alongside pre-market and after-hours sessions.

The concepts are similar; the eligible universes and session definitions are not identical.

Managed investing

Webull Advisors LLC provides automated managed portfolios with a $100 minimum and annual advisory fees of roughly 0.15% to 0.30% depending on strategy, with trades executed by Webull Financial LLC.

IBKR does not offer an equivalent consumer robo-advisor in its canonical record; its advisory ecosystem is oriented toward professional advisors and institutional accounts.

Which fits global, multi-asset trading?

IBKR. Market breadth, currency handling, spot forex, tiered pricing and institutional tooling describe a platform built for that scope.

Which fits U.S.-centric active trading with modern products?

Webull. $0 stock and stock-option commissions, low-cost futures, event contracts, crypto access, 24/5 select-equity trading, OpenAPI and a managed-portfolio option sit inside one modern app.

Practical distinction

A single ranking would not be useful.

IBKR may fit better when global markets, multi-currency accounts, spot forex, tiered volume pricing, professional tooling and institutional structure matter.

Webull may fit better when the account is U.S.-focused and the priorities are simple headline pricing, mobile and desktop usability, event contracts, crypto access and an automated portfolio option in the same relationship.

Verify current pricing, margin rates and product availability at both firms before acting; several figures in each canonical record are explicitly dated.
